About This Experience

Luján de Cuyo is where Argentine Malbec was rescued. In 1989 it became the first Denominación de Origen Controlada on the American continent, created specifically to protect the grape at a moment when growers were pulling it out and replanting with something more fashionable. This tour spends a full day inside that appellation, and unlike most Mendoza itineraries it names its three wineries in advance.

The first is Achaval-Ferrer, one of the producers most responsible for Argentina's modern reputation and known for single-vineyard Malbec of real seriousness. You tour the vineyard and taste across its top wines.

The second, Pulmary, is the counterweight: a small family operation working organically, with traditional methods and small-batch bottlings you will not find on an export shelf. Putting it directly after Achaval-Ferrer is the point of the day — the same appellation at two completely different scales.

The day finishes at Finca La Anita, a historic estate, with a gourmet lunch built to pair with the wines and vineyards on every side. Groups are kept small, and the ticket covers everything: the tastings, the alcohol, the lunch, the vehicle and all fees and taxes. Nothing is collected at the door.
